Last Friday, Father David and his team at St John’s Church hosted Year 4 for a special visit to learn more about the Christian Harvest celebration. We explored at what time of year Harvest is celebrated and why, and ways in which Christians show thankfulness not just for crops and food but also other good things in their lives by reflecting and by offering gifts to those less fortunate than themselves.
Father David and his team also shared information on Holy Communion, allowed the children to explore the church building. The children were particularly excited about taking a close look at the church’s old Bible, used for readings and on display at the church at all times. Thank you, Father David, for giving up your time and helping our children learn and reflect!
The children did our school proud, and their behaviour during the time at church was impeccable. Many of them blew us away with their fantastic questions and reflections and their focused note-taking. Well done, Year 4.
Next year, Year 4 will be playing a lead role in telling the whole of Key Stage 2 about Christian and Hindu Harvest celebrations during our Key Stage 2 Assembly. We hope this will also be an opportunity for children to bring in food donations for charity. We will contact you closer to the time with further details.
