October round-up

Dear Parents/ Carers,

As October has come to an end so has a very long but productive half term at Central Primary. Eight weeks have whizzed by and your children has already learnt a lot. We are very excited that we will be able to share this with you through our open evening on Monday 11th of November. At the open evening you will have a chance to look at your child’s work, in their notebooks, pick up a curriculum overview they have highlighted and talk to your child’s teacher. We do hope you will pop in during the evening.

Year 5 are now in full rehearsal mode, getting ready for their Shakespeare plays in mid-November. They are very excited and it is a truly spectacular event, so if you are a year 5 parent or just enjoy going to the theatre, please come and support our pupils at the Watersmeet in Rickmansworth on the 13th of November.

Probably one of the most significant changes we have made this year, has been the introduction of notebooks. These are designed to help the children develop their thinking and remembering skills. The pupils have more ownership of them than the traditional exercise books, and already we are seeing pupils use them more to revisit their learning and to demonstrate their thinking in a variety of ways. As a staff team we have been learning a lot about memory and metacognition (thinking about learning) and we continue to adapt and develop our teaching to make it as effective as possible. Before the half term we had the opportunity to train all the staff team on planning reflection, which is a process you can do before you complete a task. This kind of reflection helps you identify what you need to consider, and how you can use what you know to successful tackle a problem or task. We are looking forward to developing this with the children across the school as we go through the rest of this year.

I look forward to seeing you all at open evening.

Warm regards,

John Mynott

Head teacher
