Magnetic Forces

This term, year 3 children are exploring magnetic forces. During this topic, children experimented different types of forces and how can objects move.  They used a variety of objects such as toy cars, bean bags, balls, glue sticks to experiment how they can move. The children discovered by themselves the need of contact between two parts/sides in order to push or pull the objects.
This experiment arose an additional question:” Can we move the objects without touching them?”
They were ingenious and came up with loads of ideas to move the object, such as blowing or shaking the table.
The next stage of the lesson was to use magnets to move paper clips. The children discovered a new force called the magnetic force. They seemed absolutely thrilled and engaged in the experiment, being able to find out by themselves that this force causes magnets to attract or repel one another.
