Letter from the Governors

14th July, 2019

Dear Parents and carers,

The summer term is almost over and now here we are at the end of another school year!  I hope you have enjoyed some of the many end of year events to celebrate another successful school year at Central.

Thank you to the Friends of Central for organising this year’s school fair.  This event is only possible due to the hard work from the Friends of Central and staff members who volunteer their time and energy to make sure it is a fun-filled event.  Thank you also to parents and carers who donated raffle prizes, made cakes and food and supported the school on the day.  The money raised from this year’s fair will be used to buy resources to enhance the children’s learning such as the birthday books which have proved very popular this year.

There are many achievements to celebrate at the end of term, particularly the news that Central has been awarded an Artsmark Gold Award by the Art Council of England.  This is in recognition of the fantastic variety of art, music, dance and drama opportunities within the curriculum and in the events and experiences the children take part in.  I am always so impressed with the creativity and quality of performances from assemblies, to choir events, dance performances and of course the wonderful Arts Showcase which gets better and better every year.  A huge amount of time, energy and dedication goes into planning and organising these events and I’m so pleased that everyone’s hard work is being rewarded with this award.  Well done to you all!

The work of the Governing Body has continued to focus on finances this term to ensure that the school can offer a high-quality education for our children in a difficult financial climate.  Although school budgets are stretched, the outreach work that the school offers, the hard work that Friends of Central do to fund raise through events and the contributions that the school community make have helped to ensure that we are in a relatively stable financial position for next academic year and not in deficit.  Additionally, we have now received the one-time capital funding grant of almost £15,000 from the Department of Education which aims to help schools across England maintain and improve their buildings and site. We will be spending this money on improving the equipment in the adventure playground for all of the children in Central to enjoy.

The end of the summer term often represents a time of change and transition in schools and this is the case for the children who are leaving or moving up to new classes and for our staff.  We have a number of members of staff who are leaving us at the end of this term and I would like to say thank you to all of you for your hard work and commitment to the school.  Thank you to Miss Taylor, Mrs Grigorjevs, Miss Moss, Miss D’Souza, Miss Lawrence, Miss Davies, Miss Maclean, Ms Horbury and Ms Ahmed, and we wish you well as you take up your new posts.  Good luck also to the children in Year 6 who are leaving for secondary school on Friday.

Finally, the end of the school year means that the Governors have a lot of people to thank for their contributions to the school.  All of the teaching and support staff, the office staff, school maintenance team and volunteers have worked hard this year to ensure that Central continues to be a safe and exciting place for children to learn.  Thank you also to parents and carers in supporting the children’s learning at home during this academic year as well as on trips and through attending events at the school.

I wish everyone a relaxing and enjoyable summer break and look forwards to working with you again next year.

Yours sincerely,
Kay Richards & the Governing Body
