Autumn 2 in Reception
This half term, Conkers and Acorns have worked extremely hard in Skills Time and in all their lessons. We have all been very happy with the progress the children have made and are looking forward to seeing even more next term.
We have looked at wide range of key texts in English including ‘Dinosaur Roar’, ‘Owl Babies’ and ‘Peace at Last’. We have predicted their endings, sequenced the events, and discussed the characters and settings.
In Maths we have been practising counting forwards and backwards. We have also had great fun estimating how many objects we can see and counting them to check if we are right.
In Phonics we have been learning the sounds the letters of the alphabet make, as well as reading and writing words with these sounds.
Throughout Topic we have explored materials, learnt about Remembrance Day and studied the artist Jackson Pollock.
In Skills Time, we have been extremely busy both inside and outside. We love playing in the sand, splashing paint (inspired by Jackson Pollock), creating a vast range of items using different media and much more!
We have also been busy learning about Diwali. We looked at images, read stories and we each made a Diva Lamp out of clay, using different colour glitters to decorate it.
We loved decorating the Christmas tree in the hall, making and writing Christmas cards and creating miniature pinecone Christmas trees. We have also talked about family traditions we all have at Christmas time. Santa also came to visit us, which was brilliant! He gave us all presents, which was very kind!
It is a very sad end of term for Reception because we say goodbye and good luck to Mr Jaffer, who is starting a new adventure in another school. All of Reception wish him the best of luck and we know he will be brilliant! We are all looking forward and excited to work with Ms Wheatley, who will now teach in Acorn Class.
Until next term, have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
