Autumn 2 in Forest Class

English

In English we have been learning about Haiku poems. We examined the structural and grammar features of our model text before planning and writing own Haikus about fireworks. The children loved decorating their poems!

In addition to this, we also used our History knowledge to write brilliant recounts about The Great Fire of London.

Maths

In Maths we revisited multiplication and division, using our skills in different ways, including to solve word problems. We have been really impressed by the children’s recall of their times tables!

We have also been revisiting 2D and 3D shapes. One highlight of this topic was making our own 3D shapes using different materials. During this lesson the children used a range of mathematical vocabulary to describe their shapes.

Science

We have been learning about ‘Plants’. We began by identifying and describing different trees and flowers. We also planned and carried out an investigation to find out the best conditions for cress to grow. Throughout the unit we have been measuring our garlic plants and making weekly observations.

Art

This half term we created our own landscapes. This project linked closely to our topic of ‘The Great Fire of London’ in History.

We were really impressed with the children’s recall of information about our focus artist and their use of different pastel techniques.

Computing

In Computing we finished our ‘E-safety’ topic. The children worked incredibly hard to design and create their own e-safety posters to share their knowledge from this unit. We were really impressed with their creativity!

RE

This half term we have been learning about Christianity and Islam. We examined the importance of sacred texts and places of workshop in these religions. We also identified the similarities and differences between different versions of the creation story.
