A Week in Year 1
In English we have been looking at Recounts. We started by looking at a newspaper report about Tyrannosaurus Drip. We analysed the vocabulary and the grammatical features in the text. We then moved on to the event that took place in Central Park Zoo, where a penguin called Tango was born. We then wrote our own newspaper report about the event.
In Maths we have been exploring Money. We started by identifying coins and their values. We then moved on to finding and creating amounts by setting up our own toy shop.
This week has been art week and we have learnt lots of new skills. First we made our own tassels using recycled materials. We found cutting the fabric quite tricky! Next we made felt balls. We used sheeps wool to make our own beads that we will use alongside our tassels to make colourful bunting. During the same afternoon we painted self-portraits in the style of Frida Khalo. The illustrator we looked at was Oliver Jeffers. We read some of his books and copied his style of drawings. We created Lost and Found drawings and then our own dinosaur drawings. Then we joined in with the whole school project and created our own fabric hearts. We used fabric pens to write what was the most important thing that is in our hearts.
We have also created our own paper dinosaurs this week as part of our dinosaur construction unit. We used a ruler to complete a template and followed our designs to make them. We painted them and then added their facial features using collage.
