Welcome To Central Primary
Thank you for visiting our school’s website and welcome to Central Primary School. We aim to be a school at the centre of our community; a place where pupils, parents, staff and the wider community can grow and learn.
Our school has a diverse community with over 50 different languages spoken by our pupils and staff and we love to celebrate our linguistic and cultural diversity.
Over the last few years we have focused on raising standards. We seek to have excellent teaching across the school and our results reflect the hard work the children, staff and community have put into making our school an effective place to learn. Our progress data at Key Stage One (KS1) and Key Stage Two (KS2) shows that our children progress very well throughout the school, and this can only happen with high quality teaching. Our staff is talented and we work both within the school to further develop practice, but also are increasingly working with other schools and professionals to share our work, ideas and training. Our last inspection was undertaken by Ofsted in June 2013 where we received a rating of ‘Good’. We now offer a range of training and outreach work which can support education both in and outside of Central Primary.
We are situated right in the heart of Watford in a beautiful Victorian building, which is being restored as part of a large scale regeneration project. We continue to work hard to improve all the spaces throughout the school and always appreciate input and ideas on how we can use spaces more effectively. Our school building, opened in 1884, is the oldest in Watford and has always been used for the education of children. The building used to house the grammar schools for boys and girls until their growth saw them move to their current locations.
Central Primary currently has 430 children on roll and we are currently expanding to two-forms of entry. We have one class in Year 5 to Year 6 and two classes in each year group from Nursery to Year 4. Our Nusery provides a mixture of full-time and part- time places and we also provide specialist base classes for children with speech and language communication needs, and we have both a KS1 base and a KS2 base.
Our school day is from 8:50am (first bell sounds at 8:45) till 3:30pm and after school most days staff run a range of extra-curricular clubs. The school also operates a breakfast club every morning from 8:00am and an after-school club till 5pm. Please contact the office for more information on these provisions.
If you would like information on our curriculum or Special Educational Needs (SEND) provision please see the curriculum page of this site, or read our policies in the policy section.
